This tragedy will live on. Even as it fades or is pushed aside by yet another atrocity in a fallen world, this event will be in the back of our minds. Another reminder of the evil in the world. And for those more immediately affected by this, it will be in the forefront of their minds forever.
But this hate filled act is not the only thing that endures. Because in the midst of hate, love stepped in. First responders were there to get the injured to a hospital. Community members stepped in to offer blankets, food and water. Social media lit up with prayers and pay attentions so that we can see the evil and be part of stamping it down under our heels.
This is what truely lives on, hope. When we put aside our ideas long enough to see someone else as a person and not as an object of our hate, hope lives on. To quote one of my favorite movies, "a person is a person no matter how big or small." And a human is a human no matter their beliefs.
I'm afraid that until we get dozens of these horrible attacks per day people won't realize that this is the war declared on us by the extremists. So sad!
