Here we are, in the middle of summer break. It's hot. It's muggy. There is not a time of day when it is neither hot or muggy. The bugs are prehistoric in size and the plants are overly abundant with their foliage. The pool has lost it's novelty. The kids bicker more than they bond. Day camp has ended, but sleep away camp hasn't started yet. It's a hot mess of being in the middle of it all. The middle of the sweat and frizzy hair. Blonds are turning green, brunettes are turning orange. Nothing is where it should be because we all just throw it on the floor when we dare to make an excursion outside of the air conditioning.
I have written about the middle before, how it is not my favorite place. I don't think most of us like the middle The middle is where you have lost the excitement of a new beginning. The middle is to far from the praise and glory that comes at the end of a goal completed. The middle is murky and hard and monotonous. The middle is where it's dark or to bright. Neither of which provide a lot of motivation or direction to keep on going.
So how do we keep on going?
We get some cheerleaders. we get some mentors. we get some help.
When we get stuck in the middle, we can call out to the ones who spurred uson to begin. We ask them to brush off the path and help us to see it again. IWe will reach out and ask for a reminder about what the point was in starting. In the middle, we need some new perspective.
When we're feeling defeated and overwhelmed, we need our cheerleaders to remind us of the talents and gifts we have been equipped with to do our jobs here on earth. In the middle we need to keep our eyes up on the examples and inspirations we have looked to that sparked that flame to begin.
We might need to outsource some of our own tasks. Get a virtual assistant or swap cleaning services for website design. Maybe we need to hire that teen down the block to watch our little ones so we can get some work done. Maybe we give up the dream of gourmet, organic dinners and rely on chicken nuggets and frozen veggies. Maybe we allow our kids to make their own sandwiches. Maybe our husband does the laundry. Maybe our partner does the dishes. Maybe we join a car pool. Whatever it is, we can get some help.
Whatever your thing is, whatever middle you are amid right now. You can make it thru. And not just as an endurance test, although those are the case sometimes. You can thrive in the middle of your situation. Maybe it's the middle parenting years. Maybe it's the middle of a career you need some help remembering why you started. Perhaps it's the middle of caring for a loved one. Or even the middle of your own mid-life situation.
We are not alone in the middle. There is a group cheering, encouraging and helping you along the way. No one is successful on their own. We all need some help along the way.
