A word for the Mom

This post first appeared on the Facebook page Jesus Sisters

This is a word for the mamas. For the women who watch their hearts walk around outside their chests. This is for the moms that have birthed, adopted or grafted a child to love. A bit of encouragement who mother and nurture the future.

To the new mom. This gift of life you have brought into the world will not always be overwhelming. This newborn that has disrupted your home was assigned to you divinely. Even when you are sure all you do is make mistakes, you are still the one meant to care for this little one. You are not alone. You have a great cloud of witnesses that loves you and wants you to succeed.

To the mom of a preschooler. One day the questions end. You will be able to leave the house and not have to factor in a four year old learning to “do it myself”. The school calendar will not have a party every week and you won’t have to send in snack that correspond to the alphabet. A day is coming soon when you will have time to pick up groceries and have coffee with a friend.

To the elementary school mom. It’s here, dear one. You’ve got some breathing room. You can trust the other adults. You can also disagree with them. New friends and new influences are starting to test your faith. You will discover a new depth of trust in our Father who loves you even more than you love your kid.

To the teen mom. Oh girl, here’s where that faith grows even bigger! The early years of sowing starts

cropping up in your teens life. Your job becomes more of guide than that of a director. You can do it, Mom. You can let go. I hope your knees get callouses and your car tank runs out of gas because it’s time to let those wings on your teen to open up!

To the mom who is watching their adult children. The words of Proverbs 22:6 become your mantra. That the training in the Lord you did when they were younger becomes not just lessons from mom, but something deep and personal your child embraces. There will be hardship and experience you can’t fix. You might not even know about them. The way and truth you have shown via word and deed points the way to the Father.
