To Determine a Calling

I've been talking a lot about drive and self-discipline as tools to hone and craft you're calling. But what if you're just not sure what you're calling is?

You can not know for a hundred different reasons. So I wanted to lay out a few things that can help us determine "what we're made to do". Everyone's path looks a little bit different. And some of us catch on to things faster than others. But eventually, with a little focus and work, I believe that we can find where we are meant to be.

Step 1: Where do you keep going back to? Look at your self and write down the places you keep going. Are you at the library? Do you like to be with people? Does a neat and tidy space fill you up? Take note of where you gravitate towards.

Step 2: What do you spend your money on? If all the groceries are bought and all the bills are paid, what are you doing with the money left over? Are you going on a trip? Buying a pair of shoes? Getting a hair cut? Or a new baking pan? Track your fun money spending, it's a hint of what you love.

Step 3: Listen to what others tell you are good at. Do you get a consistent amount of praise for something you do or make? Maybe you bake really good cupcakes. Or maybe you can play the piano like Mozart. Perhaps you have a creative way of handling small children or bigger children. What do you get the most compliments on?

Step 4: What is your one thing that makes you feel good? Not what helps you forget what is bad, but what is something that you can do that fills you up with joy? Even if you can only do it sporadically.

These are four steps I have gone thru a few times in my journey. And with a few shifts in perspective, I have come to be in my calling.

I know you can too!
