In the book of Esther, found in the Christian Bible, we find a young woman who is beautiful. She is an orphan cared for by her uncle. Esther is faithful to her uncle, her religion, her people. There comes a national beauty pageant with the prize being a royal crown. Esther's uncle urges her to enter the pageant. It's a way to provide security for the young woman. So Esther does.
Esther submits herself to months of beauty treatments. To living in a harem with hundreds of other women. To pokings and proddings and measurements to make sure she is the most ideal candidate to win the King's favor. It's like a royal edition of the Bachelor.
Throughout the whole season of preparation and waiting, Esther continues to hold firmly to the values of her culture. She abstains from food that would be unsuitable to eat. She shows kindness to the other women and the servants. She is gentle, humble and obedient to her Uncle thru all of this.
Spoiler alert: Esther wins. She becomes the new queen of the land. Esther continues to be a kind and generous person even as a royal. This position of power gives her influence. It gives her the key to saving her entire racial group of people.
However, before Esther was in a place to save her people, she was a person doing the daily tasks of blessing the people she came in contact with.
I recently read a book called Make Me a Blessing (order by clicking the title) by Cassia Elder (follow her blog). In it, Cassia outlines steps we can take to be a blessing in our every day lives. She says,

" Your purpose is not tied up in a five-year plan. Your time is now. "
Like Esther, we do not need to wait for some huge event to bless people. We do not need wait for catastrophe to hit in order to spread love and comfort to those around us. To quote Ms. Elder one more time:
"Our existence is not about one macro, whole-life mission. We must tune into our micro, today mission."
Go and bless someone today. To get tips and plans for blessing buy Cassia's book at the link above.
