Maybe they just aren't into you

As we have been talking about friends, communities, your people, your tribe we have learned some great stuff. In this journey of life the most important lesson I have learned is that not everyone is going to be your best friend.

This was a hard lesson for me. Because I'm a people pleaser. I used to fall apart when I thought people didn't like me. As if I was deficient in some way because I didn't immediately click and become bosom buddies with each person I met. I had a tendency to mouth vomit all my woes to anyone I met. I wasn't entirely sure what the word discretion meant.

Two things helped change my perspective. The first was a wise friend who told me that maybe someone not liking me was more about them then it was about me. The second was a quote I found on Pinterest that said, "People are not against you, they are for themselves."

There are a lot of different reasons you might not click with someone. Maybe your personalities don't mesh. Maybe you both are just really busy and don't have time to invest in a relationship. Maybe they have a stressful situation they are dealing with. Perhaps they have gotten burned in the past by friends  and have closed themselves off. Or maybe it's one of a hundred other reasons.

The truth I want to remind you of is that another's opinion of you does not have to define you. Also, don't let one or two friendship attempts that didn't work out keep you from pursuing sistah friend relationships. Meet people where they are, not where you are.
